How to apply

Before you apply

You must be 18 years age or older to apply for Crime Victim Compensation (CVC).  If the victim is under the age of 18, deceased, or incapacitated, an individual authorized to act on their behalf such as a parent or legal guardian must apply on their behalf as the claimant.

Before starting your application, make sure to review the “Who is eligible for CVC” page here and the “What can CVC pay” page here to determine if CVC is a possible resource for you.  If not, you may want to reach out to a victim advocate for help finding a resource that is a better option for you.

NOTE: CVC does not cover loss of money, personal property, damaged or stolen vehicles, pain and suffering.

You will be notified of all Board decisions by email or by mail of the Board’s decision on your claim.

You may be required to submit additional information based on the request you are making. For example, you may need to submit a paystub if you are requesting loss of wages. Please visit  What can CVC pay? for detailed information about what CVC can reimburse, supporting documentation and forms.

If your request has been approved, payment will be made directly to service providers for a portion of the outstanding debt and/or you will be reimbursed directly for verified out of pocket expenses. You will be notified when the Board makes payment on your behalf.

Please submit bills, invoices, and receipts as you receive them from service providers. All bills, invoices and receipts will be verified.
